Variations on a Theme

 
When a composer is asked to create a musical score for a movie, he writes a customized, central melody, one that wafts throughout the entirety of the film. As the story unfolds, the basic melody repeats itself, accompanied by subtle chord and tempo changes – "variations on a theme".
